Maui is a collection of diverse communities which share an overriding interest in preserving, protecting, strengthening, and encouraging a high quality of life and sustainable island living. This is reflected in the Maui County General Plan and its associated community and island plans. Title 19 is a very important regulatory framework for ensuring that the General Plan is implemented. Your involvement will help us better understand how to use zoning to accomplish plan goals. |
The LatestThe Title 19 Zoning Code Rewrite project kicked off in February of 2020 with a series of in-person meetings involving all three planning commissions, staff, citizen advisory groups, and the Maui County Council Planning and Sustainable Land Use Committee. The COVID-19 pandemic was rapidly emerging throughout 2021, and the world faced unprecedented challenges that impacted how we all live, play, and work. It also complicated the ability of the project team to effectively work at its original pre-pandemic schedule. Although this resulted in project delays the rewrite process was able to continue through the use of remote conferencing capabilities like Zoom and online file sharing through Dropbox. Looking ahead, the team anticipates the first round of public workshops in early 2024, following release of a complete preliminary draft of the Title 19 code.
